Pro Guiding Service offers a variety of  courses designed to help you become a proficient backcountry adventurer.  While they are all great stand alone courses, we strongly encourage combining the touring and mountaineering courses with the AIARE avalanche and navigation courses to give you all of the tools necessary to travel safely in the backcountry.  All courses are movement based, meaning you will spend most of your time actively learning in the field, and 100% application based, meaning you will apply every concept that you are introduced to while ski touring in relevant terrain. This 1-day course focuses specifically on the scenario: an avalanche just happened, somebody was caught, Now What?!  It focuses on searching with your avalanche beacon, probing and shoveling techniques, and improving your response time while managing people and scene safety.  This course is a great stand-alone course, and it is a prerequisite for the AIARE Level 2. New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue, while returning participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills.

Avalanche Course - AIARE Level 1 - Splitboard Only

This 3-Day Level 1 Avalanche Course is an introduction to using decision making tools to help a group manage risk while traveling in avalanche terrain. This course is for splitboarders only and is taught by our splitboard instructor, Jere Burrell.  You will learn how to recognize avalanche terrain and make appropriate decisions about your tarvel in the backcountry based on an avalanche forecast.  You will also be introduced to topics such as mountain weather, snow pack analysis, tour planning, hazard recognition and evaluation, transceiver searches, and much more.  Upon completion you will receive a Level 1 certificate from the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE).
