Intro to Ski Touring

January 05, 2012 - January 08, 2012
This four day program has been very successful. It is targeted at the alpine skier who would like to start venturing into the back country on skis. This is a how-to, when-to course that should be affordable for everybody.

We firmly believe that the best classroom setting is in the outdoors-- we therefore keep the indoor lecturing to a bare minimum. There will be debriefs over a cup of coffee after the various days. Any of the lead guides teaching this course are either a UAIGM mountain guide or an AMGA ski mountaineering guide.

We will show you how to get comfortable with the touring gear and cover topics such as transceiver search, terrain evaluation in up or downhill situations, track laying, map and compass work. There is a lot to cover in four days-- be prepared to learn.
We recommend taking this course in conjunction with an AIARE Level 1 course. These two courses combined truly are an impressive introduction to backcountry skiing or snowboarding. Sign up for both and receive a 15% discount on both courses.
